Officials expect a busy first day as May 1 follows the last day of a renewal month or end of a grace period for many vehicle owners.
The UTC had a “soft opening” last Saturday, April 24, and served 43 customers.
“Our thought was to continue the training of new employees by our more experienced staff and at the same time serve any customers who may stop by,” said Motor Vehicle Manager Toby Anderson.
Several customers stopped by to renew their driver’s licenses, but due to Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle restrictions, driver’s license renewal services are not currently offered on Saturdays.
Anderson said he hopes to be able to add the service at a future date.
The Clerk & Recorder’s Office has instituted a five-month trial period for Saturday motor vehicle registration services, from May to September. The Union Town Center opened on December 14, 2009 and replaced the north branch office at the Chapel Hills Mall.
