As the weather warms up and visitors come out in full force, parking issues in Manitou Springs heat up as well.
The city has kicked around several ideas intended to ease its parking headache and has now developed a pilot program.
Read more about the ideas in a May 8 tourism column, that appeared in the Business Journal.
The City Council will hold a meeting, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, at City Hall in Manitou, to present its six-month pilot program for employee, visitor and resident parking.
The program is aimed at distributing parking so that employees and business owners won’t park in spaces intended primarily for visitors, which hurts local businesses and decreases sales tax revenue. Also, the program addresses residential and visitor parking.
During the next few months, changes will be made in how employee parking permits are offered, while a long-term and comprehensive plan is developed.
The proposed plan will accommodate the businesses who are required to purchase permits by the city.
