Debbie Hesse has been named executive director of the USA Swimming Foundation and will assume her new role on November 15.
Her selection was welcomed by a competitive swimming community that’s been hit hard by recent alleged coaching sexual improprieties.
“Debbie brings incredible character, stature and expertise to the USA Swimming Foundation,” said USA Swimming Executive Director Chuck Wielgus.
In her new position, Hesse will lead work on developing and honoring top international competitive swimmers, the Foundation’s national child-focused, water-safety initiative, Make a Splash, and on raising funds to support the U.S. National Team.
Hesse previously served as USA Diving president and CEO where membership increased by 21 percent and sponsorship/broadcast revenues more than doubled during her tenure.
The sport of swimming also benefited during her leadership, with U.S. divers earning the best results in international success since the 1980s.
