Home Lighting at 624 N. Tejon St. will close for a day and re-open as At Home, a lighting and home products center.
The change comes as former owner, Jim Walters, who continued to work at the business, reassumes the company’s leadership after selling Home Lighting two years ago.
Home Lighting was purchased in 2008 by Foothills Lighting of Denver, but the new owner struggled to make ends meet, Walters said.
He said the business, which originally opened in 1952, has several thousand customers on the books.
“Because of legalities, we had to physically close and then re-open.”
The company’s long-time staff will remain in place, though the business itself will transition to a new name and will add new home-related business products.
Walters said the changes will mean a complete remodel for the 9,500-square-foot building.
Redesigned by Janitell-Childs Architects, the main floor will be designed to accommodate several small businesses that sell mirrors and other decorator items while the upper level will be turned into offices.
“When the new owners took over we were forced to scale back (on inventory). But we now plan to re-bolster our lampshade business because we’ve found there’s a need for nicer linens and silks. We’ll have to hustle, but we’re back,” he said.
