Boulder County to ask voters for open space tax

Boulder voters will decide in November whether they want a tax increase to help the county buy more open space land.

Boulder County commissioners unanimously agreed to put the question on the ballot asking voters to authorize a 0.15 percent sales and use tax, which amounts to 15 cents on every $100. Parks and Open Space Department Director Ron Stewart says the additional funds are needed to buy land that is coming up for sale in part because of the recession. Stewart says he worries developers will buy the land if the county doesn’t get it first.

Boulder County residents already pay a 0.45 percent sales tax to support the Parks and Open Space Department.
