Thirty management and administrative employees at Current USA and PaperDirect Inc. have receive word they’ll be laid off by Aug. 27.

Wendy Huxta, president of both companies, said that the “difficult decision” comes as a result of changing market conditions, in other words the slow recovery.

“We have realigned our resources to be better-equipped to respond to these needs and to compete in the markets we serve,” Huxta said in a statement.

Both management and support positions will be eliminated, or about 5 percent of the company’s work force of 609 people.

The Taylor Corp. a Minneapolis-based printing and marketing company, has owned PaperDirect and Current since 1998.

Current USA Inc. manufactures and distributes paper products and other items to customers in business-to-consumer markets. Its consumer brands, Current, Colorful Images and Lillian Vernon, market their products through catalog and Internet channels. PaperDirect and Idea Art sell paper products to small business, home office and business-to-business markets.
