Marijuana license fees net $7.3 million for state

More than 2,000 Coloradans applied for medical marijuana dispensary licenses before the deadline last weekend, netting the state a cool $7.34 million in application fees.

More than 700 people applied specifically for dispensary licenses.

Now, state officials will begin conducting background checks on the applicants before awarding licenses.

“This outpouring of applications is another sign of how willing and eager marijuana business owners are to be taxed, regulated and given equal treatment to other legitimate establishments,” said Steve Fox, director of government relations for the Marijuana Policy Project, which has 124, 000 members and supporters nationwide.
