Colo. school districts get stimulus to save jobs

A $26 billion jobs bill signed this week by President Barack Obama could save 2,600 teaching jobs in Colorado.

U.S. Rep. Jared Polis says the bill will provide Colorado school districts with $160 million, to be distributed to school districts throughout the state.

He said without the bill, class sizes would be larger for students across the state and school districts would lose valuable experience.

However, Republicans are questioning the number of jobs that will be saved.

State Sen. Nancy Spence, R-Centennial, says school districts are freezing or cutting salaries and benefits, cutting jobs through attrition, and relying on furloughs to avoid layoffs.
