Ted Eastburn, a former Colorado Springs City Councilman and a cardiologist with Memorial Hospital,  committed suicide this morning at the hospital.

Police said hospital staff members reported hearing a gunshot fired from inside a locked office. When police arrived they found the body.

Eastburn was elected to the council in 1999 and served a term. He ran for mayor in 2003 but was defeated by Lionel Rivera.

Hospital officials did not comment, but said they are preparing a release.
