United Healthcare is offering grants to educators to create local hands-on programs to fight childhood obesity.
Grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to programs that propose creative solutions to fightin obesity in teir schools and communities. The programs must be easily implemented, scaled and measured.
In Colorado, about 27.2 percent of children ages 10 to 17 are overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Applications must be submitted online before Oct. 22. Winners will be notified in December and January.
Recipients will be able to showcase their projects during Global Youth Service Day, April 15-17, 1011.
