Fort Carson’s 4th Engineer Battalion is getting a new commander.

Lt. Col. Kevin Sanders Sr. will turn over command of the unit to Lt. Col. Bryan Green on Friday.

Sanders led the battalion through an unusual deployment that took it first to Iraq and then directly to Afghanistan. Most units complete a deployment in one country or another.

The battalion’s job included finding and clearing improvised bombs.

At least eight soldiers from the battalion were killed in Afghanistan.

Landers’ new assignment is with the U.S. Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base.

Green’s previous assignment was with the Army’s Central Command. Fort Carson says he conducted operations in approximately 29 countries in southwest Asia.
