Zoo launches text-donation program

More than 700 animals at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo rack up a serious grocery bill every year – $1.4 million in food and care costs.

Unlike many other zoos in the nation, Cheyenne Mountain doesn’t receive any tax dollars.  The zoo relies on donations, membership dues, admission fees and grants for funding.

The Zoo has launched Text to Give program, which makes it easier to support the Zoo’s efforts. For example, one $10 Text to Give donation covers the cost of:

• 5 cans of paint for the elephants and orangutans to paint with, or
• alfalfa for three giraffes, or
• 1,000 crickets for the reptiles and amphibians

To help, text ‘CMZGive10′ to 20222. This automatically contributes $10 via your cell phone.  A one-time donation of $10 will be added to your cell phone bill or deducted from your prepaid balance and given to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Annual Fund. Your donation will appear as Mobile Giving Foundation on your wireless statement. All donations are tax deductible.
