A chance for the Springs to keep USA Basketball?

Filed under: Daily News | Tags:, ,

In 2008 USA Basketball officials announced that the organization planned to leave Colorado Springs for a new headquarters near the University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Today, the plans are the equivalent of an air ball.

The project was scheduled to be completed this year, but ground has not been broken  because the developer has been unable to find financing, The Arizona Republic reports.

Originally heralded by former Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, the USA Basketball complex was supposed to include a $53.8 million training campus with a training center, offices, a three-star hotel and the Midwestern University sports medicine clinic.

Now, competition for the the organization is anyone’s game.

USA Basketball attorney Tom O’Malley told the Republic that all site options – both local and national – are up for grabs.
