C.S. Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony Wednesday

The father of Colorado Springs baseball, an Olympic team that had its dreams dashed because of the Moscow Olympic boycott, and the owner and founder of the Sky Sox are just a few of the individuals and teams that will be inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

The list of inductees and honorees includes:

  • 1980 U.S. Olympic Women’s Volleyball Team
  • Andy Gambucci, Colorado College Ice Hockey
  • Sherrice King, Rampart High & CU Basketball
  • Ken Brown, Wasson High & Cornell University World Championship Rower
  • Ken Hatfield, Air Force Football
  • Fred Whitacre, “The Father” of Baseball In Colorado Springs
  • David G. Elmore, Sky Sox Owner and Founder, Sports Entrepreneur
  • 1981 Mitchell High State Football Champions

The 11th anniversary event also will feature two lifetime achievement award recipients. Dick Westbay for his decades of mentorship to students and athletes at Wasson High School, and Dr. Jamieson Kennedy will be honored for his contributions to sports medicine.
