The team for the artist Christo now says 2014 is a more realistic time frame for carrying out his proposed project for the Arkansas River, if it can get a federal permit.
Christo and his late wife, Jeanne-Claude, envisioned suspending huge fabric panels from a system of cables across eight spots on the river for the project, called Over the River.
Christo’s team had said 2013 was the earliest the public could view the project, but the Bureau of Land Management has yet to issue a permit for it.
The artist’s team said this week that if the BLM does approve the couple’s vision, it probably wouldn’t be exhibited until at least August 2014.
Opponents have said Christo’s proposal poses traffic, safety, economic and environmental concerns.
