Colorado Republicans have elected a new speaker to take over leadership of the House of Representatives in January.

The Republican caucus elected Rep. Frank McNulty of Highlands Ranch to lead the House, where the GOP appears poised to win a razor-thin, 33-32 majority.

House Democrats said some votes still haven’t been counted, but acknowledged they would probably lose the majority. They elected Rep. Sal Pace of Pueblo as their minority leader.

Democrats still have control of the Senate and lawmakers there re-elected President Brandon Shaffer of Longmont and Minority Leader Mike Kopp of Littleton.

Election results won’t become official until Nov. 25.
