Lawmakers mull conservation easement audit

Colorado lawmakers are considering whether to conduct an audit of the state’s troubled conservation easement program following complaints of shoddy appraisals.

The Legislative Audit Committee will consider the request when it meets today.

Problems with appraisals has prompted the denial of $90 million in tax credits to 355 landowners.

State Rep. Marsha Looper, a Republican from Calhan, says homeowners are not being properly notified by the state and their land is facing foreclosure.
