Solar-powered road signs saving Springs money (access required)

Solar powered speed zone signs in school zones have saved Colorado Springs $1 million, city traffic engineers say.

The signs require less maintenance and are cheaper and quicker to install than traditional systems.

The Colorado Department of Transportation also uses the solar powered signs in construction zones on major roadways.
