Securities division issues cease order to Colorado man

Christopher Yates and his company, CM Yates Inc., received a final “cease and desist” order from the Colorado Securities Commissioner for violating the securities registration provisions of Colorado law.

Commissioner Fred Joseph said Yates offered securities to Colorado investors by advertising on the internet and through mass e-mailing. Yates sought Colorado investors for investment property that he would renovate or remodel, then lease for cash flow and long-term equity appreciation.

Yates allegedly failed to register either security offering, and by offering the investment opportunity to the general public, he could not take advantage of private exemptions under the act.

“Investors should always be wary of stock offerings promoted through the use of general advertising,” Joseph said.
