The Army has extended the period for public comment regarding placement of a Combat Aviation Brigade.

Just two days after Congressman Doug Lamborn and Colorado Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet sent a formal request to extend the Dec. 20 deadline, the Army said it will allow public comment until Jan. 7.

The Army has called for comments on its recently-released Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, which reviews environmental effects related to expanding the brigades. The PEIS is available at

The Army expects to make a decision next year, and has listed three potential options for additional brigades: Maintain the current force structure by not creating additional units; create one new brigade at either Fort Carson or Joint Base Lewis-McChord; or establish a new brigade at both Fort Carson and Lewis-McChord.
