Duncan Stewart will step down as CEO of the Colorado Springs Technology Incubator next year to become chairman of its board of directors.

Stewart will be replacing Gary Markle, current chairman of the board, who is retiring from the CSTI board after shepherding the incubator through its early years.

According to a statement from the incubator, a new CEO will be chosen during the first quarter of 2011.

“Duncan has done an amazing job re-imagining what the incubator could and should be,” said Alan Steiner, another former CSTI chairman. “The board is fully behind Duncan … with his leadership and chairman, the transition to another dynamic CEO will be smooth as we enter this next exciting development phase.”

That phase will include a new building with more space for manufacturing, as well as a research and development laboratory.
