Banking commissioner resigns

Steven Strunk has submitted his resignation as Colorado Banking Commissioner, effective Jan. 1.

A Colorado Springs resident, Strunk accepted the position in April. Formerly, he was regional president of Kirkpatrick Bank in the Springs.

“(His) banking knowledge and expertise have been invaluable to the Division of Banking,” said Barbara Kelley, executive director of the Department of Regulatory Agencies.

“It has been an honor and privilege to work with the staff and to serve the people of Colorado,” Strunk said in a press release.

Strunk said he plans to return to the private banking industry, where he has worked for more than 35 years.

Colorado Securities Commissioner Fred Joseph will serve as the acting commissioner of banking.
