Space Foundation plans big announcement

The Space Foundation and the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corp. are planning a joint news conference at the Penrose House on Thursday. The two groups were tight-lipped about the announcement, but they have been working together for months to find new office space for the foundation.

Earlier this year, the EDC launched an effort to raise $1 million to purchase a new building for the Space Foundation. At the time, Mike Kazmierski, president and CEO of the EDC, reported the effort was moving quickly.

Some locations have been bandied about including the former Intel building, now known as the Corporate Ridge Office and Technology Building on Garden on the Gods Road. But El Paso County is moving into part of the complex, so there might not be adequate or suitable space for the foundation there, Kazmierski said.

The Space Foundation was founded in 1983 and is a global, nonprofit organization that focuses on all sectors of the space industry – civil, commercial, military and intelligence.

The organization publishes an annual report about the space industry and publishes three indices that track daily performance throughout the industry.
