800 health care providers unite for ‘information exchange’

Colorado health officials plan a major push this year for electronic health records of Colorado patients, despite concerns about security of private information.

The Denver Post reports that about 800 Colorado health care providers are uniting to create a statewide “information exchange,” a system in which doctors can call up patients’ health histories on the spot rather than using paper records.

The move to digitize medical records is backed by the Obama administration, which provided funds for the process in both the 2009 stimulus package and the 2010 health reform law.
