Democrats aren’t the only ones headed into office in Colorado. Two Republicans elected to statewide office are taking their oaths, too, tripling the number of statewide Republican officials.

Republican Scott Gessler takes the oath Tuesday as secretary of state, which oversees elections. And Walker Stapleton takes the oath as treasurer. They’ll join Republican Attorney General John Suthers, who is taking an oath for his second term.

The new officials say they’re planning small inaugural festivities of their own, though most of the focus will be on incoming Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper, who will become Colorado’s 42nd governor.

Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia also takes his oath of office today, along with Bill Vidal, who takes over as the interim mayor of Denver after Hickenlooper resigns the job.
