Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper could be off to a bumpy start with his Cabinet appointments as the Senate takes up one of his most controversial picks first.

A Senate committee starts work Monday reviewing Hickenlooper’s choice to lead the Department of Labor and Employment, Ellen Golombeck. She’s a former president of the Colorado AFL-CIO, and Republicans complain she’s not business-friendly.

All of Hickenlooper’s Cabinet picks face Senate review, though Democrats control the Senate and Hickenlooper’s confirmations aren’t in doubt. Still, some Republicans argue that Golombeck doesn’t fit Hickenlooper’s description of himself as business-friendly and may argue against her confirmation.
