Air Force Academy investigating 25 cadets for using ‘spice’

Air Force Academy officials are investigating about two dozen cadets for using a  drug called “spice.”

Spice, a synthetic cannabis, is not illegal, but prohibited under an Air Force General Order prohibiting the use of intoxicating substances, which was issued in April.

Since the order was issued, five cadets have left the Academy after they were found using the drug.

The Washington Post reported yesterday that seven midshipmen were expelled from the U.S. Naval Academy for posessing Spice and violating a “zero-tolerance” policy.

“Consistent with Air Force policy and instructions, the U.S. Air Force Academy has a zero tolerance policy regarding the use of these intoxicating substances,” said Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, USAFA Superintendent.

Those who are accused of disobeying the General Order face disciplinary actions that include trial by court-martial, non-judicial punishment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, reprimands and involuntary separation from the Air Force.
