Gobos named Business Journal publisher

Veteran newspaper executive Kathleen Gobos has been named vice president and publisher of Colorado Publishing Co., home of the online and print media Colorado Springs Business Journal, The Transcript and three weekly newspapers published for the U.S. military.

The appointment is effective Feb. 3.

Gobos has served as associate publisher of Long Island Business News since 2006, starting with the company in 2004 as an advertising executive.  Previously she spent 13 years in ad sales and management at Newsday, a daily newspaper serving Long Island, New York.  Long Island Business News promoted Gobos to advertising director in 2005 and to associate publisher the following year.

“Kathleen brings a wealth of experience to Colorado Springs, a thriving media and business market that I’m sure will respond to what she does best – build businesses,” said Jim Dolan, president and CEO of The Dolan Company (NYSE:DM), which owns Colorado Publishing.  “She’s a strong manager and leader and I’m sure Kathleen will take our Colorado operations to new heights of achievement,” Dolan added.

In addition to her newspaper duties, Gobos also serves on the advertising oversight board of The Dolan Company. In New York, she has served on the boards of the Long Island Advertising Club, the not-for-profit Education Assistance Corp. and Moxie, a networking group for women executives, among others.

A native of Long Island, she is a recent graduate of the regional leadership program Energeia Partnership.

“I’m obviously going to miss Long Island,” Gobos said. “It’s my home and filled with great friends and people of great passion. It took a very special opportunity for me to consider leaving – but this is one.”

Colorado Springs Business Journal serves more than 1 million residents in El Paso County and the metro area. The Daily Transcript serves the legal and real estate communities and specializes in public notices.   The military newspapers serve Fort Carson, a U.S. Army base, and Peterson and Schriever Air Force bases. The company has a staff of about 35.

“Kathleen has shown great leadership for our New York operation and this is a great opportunity for her,” said Dolan Company Group Publisher Mark Singletary. “She will be missed on Long Island, but this is a big opportunity in Colorado.”
