Accredited Members Inc. – one of the few publicly traded companies in Colorado Springs – has moved its Micro Cap Investment Research conference from Tucson, Ariz. to Colorado Springs.
Accredited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Accredited Members Holding Corp., is an investment research firm, not a transaction firm. It publishes data and research about small- and micro-cap companies, those with $50 million or less in market capital.
CEO J.W. Roth said that for the last couple of years, the company held its conferences all over the United States at various resorts.
“I felt like it would be easier to get higher-end money managers to attend in Arizona when it was snowing in New York City,” Roth said.
Instead, he found that most of the serious money managers and investors didn’t care about the resort in and of itself and were more interested in being able to spend time with the employees of Accredited.
Not only that, but it’s more convenient for Roth and his employees to do business when people come to the company’s home town, he said, where they have access to their office and facilities, which are adjacent to the Antlers.
In addition, “we have made a conscious decision to expand our own visibiltiy in our own back yard, this year,” Roth said. He would also like to attract a local following of investors for his company’s research data.
“We are one of the top three small-cap investment researchers in the nation, and we’ve spent little time promoting ourselves in our hometown,” he said.
Roth expects about 500 attendees at the conference, 200 of whom will be some of the top money managers in the U.S.
Investment guru Ben Stein will be the keynote speaker on March 7 to 8, at The Antlers Hilton in downtown Colorado Springs.
In the past, the conference has provided an opportunity for presenting companies to stage exhibits and to meet with hundreds of high net-worth individuals to discuss their background and potential opportunities. Investors will be able to network with their peers, sharing ideas and potential investment strategies.
