City’s departments are cleaning out their supply closets, and instead of merely throwing out unwanted, unused items, their trying to find a second home for them.
If other city offices don’t want them, nonprofit groups can pick up supplies from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at City Hall. They’ll need proof of nonprofit status.
“It’s an effort to model the ‘reuse’ portion of the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ mantra,” said City Sustainability Coordinator Carrie McCausland. “Occasionally city functions go away, or items become outdated for a specific work group as printed processes become computerized, yet we recognize that another work group may still be able to use those materials.”
For the last several years, the city has held an internal supply-swap to reduce office supply costs. Last year, Colorado Springs started offering left over materials to nonprofits.
