Just weeks after opening its doors, Houston-based Cornerstone Mortgage Co. closed its Colorado Springs office at 240 Writers Way, just southeast of downtown.
“We’ve just decided to go in a different direction,” said Sabrina Nowling, director of public relations for the Colorado headquarters in Fort Collins. “We’re committed to Colorado Springs, however, and we will be re-opening as soon as we find the right people.”
Nowling would not give a date to re-open the Colorado Springs branch, which opened Jan. 21. She declined to say if the three employees hired for the Colorado Springs office were fired, or relocated.
Cornerstone has offices in Denver, Pueblo, Grand Junction and Steamboat Springs.
Its Colorado Springs expansion was just part of the company’s aggressive expansion nationwide. In 2006, it had 500 employees in nine states. Today, it operates in 13 states, with more than 900 employees and 76 offices.
