Housing officials say new foreclosure filings in Colorado fell in 2010, but the number of foreclosure sales at auction rose.
The Division of Housing said this week there were 42,692 foreclosure filings in 2010. That’s down 8 percent from a record 46,394 filings in 2009, when people suffered layoffs during the recession.
But the number of foreclosure sales at auction was 23,891 in 2010, up almost 17 percent from 2009. The division says the high number of foreclosures in the pipeline in 2009 boosted the number of sales at auction in 2010.
New foreclosure filings fell in Front Range metropolitan counties in 2010 compared with 2009. But in Mesa County in western Colorado, filings rose nearly 30 percent, and foreclosure sales at auction rose 173 percent.
