Amateur athletes in Colorado can now register for the 2011 Rocky Mountain State Games.
The games will be held July 22 – 24 and July 29 to 31, in Colorado Springs.
The competition is the state’s largest multi-sport event, offering 33 sports for competitors. The event typically draws thousands of competitors and spectators to the region, making the event one of the city’s bigger tourism and economic opportunities.
Managed by the Colorado Springs Sports Corp., the competition is open to Colorado residents of all ages and athletic abilities, including people who are physically disabled or visually impaired and Paralympic athletes. The games are recognized by the National Congress of State Games, a member organization of the United States Olympic Committee.
The games are held at a variety of venues, including the U.S. Olympic Training Center, United States Air Force Academy, Memorial Park, Fort Carson and Colorado College.
Last year, more than 6,500 athletes from 120 cities and towns in Colorado competed locally in the games.
