Penrose-St. Francis Health Services was named one of the top 50 hospitals by national nonprofit HealthGrades.
It is the only hospital in Colorado to earn the distinction, which were gathered from risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates that rank them in the top 5 percent of the nation. The rankings represent the top 1 percent of hospitals in the entire country for health care quality and have a nearly 30 percent lower risk of death and 3.45 percent lower rate of complications.
HealthGrades uses reports hospitals send to the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services to create the rankings.
Hospitals do not pay to be ranked, but they do pay HealthGrades if they use the award in marketing materials.
