Colo. senator unveils plan to prevent school cuts

A Colorado Democrat who has said he’ll propose a possible tax to avoid education cuts plans to give new details about his plan.

Boulder Sen. Rollie Heath says he has a plan to protect schools from additional budget cuts next fiscal year. He’s set to speak about it at the Capitol on Monday.

Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper has proposed slashing education funding, which comprises the biggest chunk of the state budget. The $332 million cut for the next school year would amount to about $500 less per student.

Heath called the governor’s proposal “unacceptable.”

Senate President Brandon Shaffer, another Democrat, has also criticized the governor’s education cuts. But unlike Heath, Shaffer has said new taxes shouldn’t be considered.

  1. Rollie! Johnny! How about cutting entitlements to illegals who have taken up residence here? How much would that save? Some idiot in Denver is proposing giving illegals in-state tuition to our colleges. Why? I am working my butt off to stay afloat and you want MORE OF MY MONEY! Understand this “leaders,” I am a turnip. You and the feds have squeezed me, bled me, and sucked me dry.

You have taxed me, fee’d me, and charged me to death. Everywhere I go, you have your hand in my pocket. Cut spending in the schools before you increase my taxes. Do something to create more jobs before punishing me for your fiscally irresponsible policies.

Reward the good teachers and administrators, and fire the bad ones. Get rid of tenure. If anyone else in the private sector did a bad job, they’d get fired. What makes a government employee any different?

Politicians: Let’s have a spending orgy.
Citizens: Where’s the money coming from?
Politicians: We’ll do what we can to find it (which secretly means ~ We’re going to spend first, cry ‘crisis’ and tax you to get us out of a crisis). Ask not what Colorado can do for you, ask how you can be taxed so we can spend your sweat.

    AARGH!

  2. Seriously? You want us to comfort illegal immigrants and then pay out of our noses to maintain the services we already have? Does this actually make sense to you idiots, because it doesn’t make sense to me. First, cut all aid going to people who are not citizens or residents; then take those funds and add them to our schools.
