State board to mull medical pot regulations
Marijuana doctors in Colorado are supposed to have a “bona fide” relationship with patients before recommending the drug.
State health regulators are working to define what a “bona fide” relationship means with new regulations up before the Board of Health Wednesday.
The proposed regulations specify that a doctor has to complete a physical exam of a patient and be available for follow-up care. The regulations also repeat existing rules banning doctors from examining patients in a marijuana dispensary or offering discounted pot.
The Board of Health’s regulations are designed to discourage so-called “marijuana mills” in which doctors recommend pot to people after only brief visits. It was unclear whether the board would vote Wednesday or put off a decision until later.
