I don’t understand the Park Services reasoning because the racers would be riding on a paved road through the park that vehicles drive on every day. Vehicles not only typically move faster than a bicycle but they also spew exhaust fumes. This reasoning sounds like a very lame excuse to me. Too bad.

Why on earth would the taxpayers actually get to use their park!
Another example of a government bureacracy who has forgotten who their customer is.

This sounds like a false objection – there may be some hidden agenda or someones toes were stepped on where trying to get the permit.
This is just great thousands of dollars in tourist money will be lost to that part of the state, and would have give TV camera a chance to see how beautiful this part of the country is.
