The University of Colorado system is launching its most ambitious fundraising campaign in the university system’s history.
The $1.5 billion comprehensive campaign will benefit all four campuses, including the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
The university has raised more than $900 million since the silent phase of the campaign began in July2006. Major fundraising campaigns typically conduct a silent phase to build momentum and engage key constituents. The public phase will continue until the goal is reached.
CU presented Bruce Benson and his wife, Marcy, will serve as co-chairmen for the campaign, the second thy have led at CU.
The primary focus of Creating Futures, the name of the latest fundraising effort, will be scholarships, faculty and program enhancements, facility upgrades and research activities.
“This campaign will enable CU to continue to provide students with access to a world-class education and allow the university to augment its role as an economic driver and jobs creator,” said Benson.
Private contributions augment university activities, but do not make up for steep declines in state funding, since more than 98 percent of contributions are earmarked by donors for specific purposes. Restricted gifts cannot be use to support the universities daily operations.
