Fort Carson officials say volunteers saved the post about $2.5 million and provided about 150,000 hours of service last year.

Post commanders are holding an awards ceremony and luncheon on Tuesday to thank the volunteers.

Army officials say it’s impossible to accurately measure the benefits volunteers provide.

Volunteers help out through the Red Cross, child and youth initiatives, Army Community Service, family readiness groups, the Fort Carson thrift shop, Army spouses’ organizations and other programs that help soldiers and their families.
