Air Force Academy’s economic impact: $851 million

The Air Force Academy has an annual economic impact of $851 million dollars, according to a study released today by the academy.

That figure includes direct and indirect jobs, construction projects, businesses located on the academy – it does not include the 440,000 tourists who visit the academy every year.

The academy employs more than 10,000 people,  3,600 of whom are civilians. It supports 75,000 retirees living in the area as well, the report said.

Sports events alone bring in $5 million in revenue, and an additional $940,000 in labor costs.

The report says that the average annual salary of those working at the AFA equals about $43,000 a year, and creates a total of 3,580 indirect jobs. The value of those jobs – $154.3 million.
