Secretary of State Scott Gessler is transferring $485,000 of unclaimed overpayments to the Colorado treasurer.
The funds mostly come from overpayments to the Secretary of State’s office prior to June 30, 2009. The money comes from business filings, bingo, raffles, notary fees and elections.
Gessler says he has taken steps to prevent overpayments in the future.
Colorado’s Department of Unclaimed Property is administered by the state treasurer that has accumulated more than $200 million in unclaimed cash and property belonging to over 2 million Coloradans.
