After 24 years, the Colorado Springs Independence Center has a new name and new logo – and expanded services.

Now known as The Independence Center, the local nonprofit for disabled adults offers home health care, independent living services and the only retail store in Colorado that carries adaptive equipment for people with disabilities.

“The Indepedence Center provides tools for people with disabilities – tools that can help them live the lives they want,” says Doug Heylger, director of community relations. “We offer a host of advocacy and support services, including life coaching, housing referral and training.”

The organization will start serving Medicaid patients later this year and will provide a new print catalog for its retail store.

It’s also hosting the second annual Independence Center casino night, scheduled for Aug. 26 at Stargazers Event Center. Proceeds also benefit the Cerebral Palsy Association of Colorado Springs.
