Mt. Tejon owner opens new shop

When the Mt. Tejon shop downtown closed its doors this spring it ended an era. This weekend will mark the start of a new one.

Jeanne Galvin, owner of the former Mt. Tejon, will open her new Tillie & Toad shop in the same location on Tejon between Bijou and Kiowa this Saturday.

The Tillie & Toad grand opening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be themed  “golden days of summer” and Jack Miller Jewelry Design will be purchasing unwanted gold, Galvin said.

“If anyone needs gems removed from the jewelry, he can do that, too,” Galvin  said.

Her new store will feature a couple of the clothing lines previously available at Mt. Tejon and some of the baby and toddler clothes that were available at Couture, another recently-closed downtown retailer.

Tillie & Toad will also sell jewelry and bath and body goods.

The store has been remodeled and will have a completely new feel, Galvin said, but the newest thing about her new store will actually be old. She said the back room of the shop will be filled with high-end used clothing and consigned items. That section of the store will be called Wear me Out Resale.

“Eventually, we expect that back room will grow to be most of the store,” Galvin said.
