City class on sales and use tax basics

The City of Colorado Springs will offer a free class about sales and use tax from 9 to 11 a.m. July 27 at the City Administration Building, 30 S. Nevada Ave.

The class will cover some of the basics of the City Sales Tax Code and will help individuals understand how sales and use tax impacts businesses in the City of Colorado Springs. Attendees will learn how to prepare and file sales and use tax returns.

Grant-seeking for nonprofits

The Pikes Peak Library District will host a class about grant-seeking for nonprofits from 8 to 10 a.m.

Learn how to identify foundation and corporate giving programs using free online databases accessible through the Pikes Peak Library District. Successfully search the Foundation Directory Online, the Colorado Grants Guide, and other online databases. Registration is required. Call Amy Rodda at 531-6333, x2335 to register.

Women in Business reception

The Southern Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce is hosting a women-in-business reception, “Evening in Tuscany” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Coutura Designs, 6380 Corporate Centre Circle. The evening includes Italian fare, wine tasting and entertainment by the Colorado Springs Conservatory. Cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.

CRP networking, espresso style

The Chamber’s Rising Professionals will host a speed networking luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the East Library, 5550 N. Union Blvd. Cost is $20 for CRP members and $30 for non members. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Like speed dating, participants will have two minutes to introduce themselves to one person and tell their story and then when the buzzer sounds, each person moves to the next. Boxed lunch will be served.

Ent seminar

Ent Federal Credit Union will host a seminar from 9 a.m. to noon at 7350 Campus Dr. that will explore creative business writing. Learn about avoiding the top 10 communication mistakes and missteps and analyzing the four basic behavioral styles to target the reader’s preferred approach, strengthen impact with case studies, stories, statistics, quotes, photos or video.
