Penrose surgery group ranked above average

Penrose-St. Francis Health System received a three-star rating for heart bypass surgery from Consumer Reports magazine.

The ranking puts it above the national average.

The cardiothoracic surgery division is the only group in southern Colorado to achieve the distinction, which is highlighted in the September edition of the magazine. It was one of only 81 groups nationwide to receive above average national ratings. It’s the second year in the row Penrose received the rating.

The data comes from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, which gathers information from more than 90 percent of the roughly 1,100 surgical groups in the U.S. that perform cardiac surgery.
