CDOT lists highways to avoid during race

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge is expected to draw 1 million spectators to Colorado Springs when it gets under way Aug 22.

And that is likely to cause traffic snarls.

Here’s a list of roads and highways to avoid between noon and 4:30 p.m. that day, as well as suggested alternate routes.

U.S. 24 and Cimarron St.: Right and left turns from US 24/Cimarron St. will be restricted at 8th St., 21st St. and 31st St.

Downtown Colorado Springs/I-25 Exits: Expect delays on I-25 through downtown from Garden of the Gods Exit to Cimarron Exit.

Suggested alternate routes: Eastbound Colorado Ave. (Business US 24): 31st to Cimarron/U.S. 24. I-25 through downtown: Use Academy Boulevard or other local roads.

Racers will pass through a number of towns and cities in the state, including Aspen, Breckenridge, Denver, Gunnison, Salida, Steamboat Springs and Vail. CDOT has posted details on its traveler information website www.cotrip.org.
