Some of what Leigh wants to do is smart, adding culture and color to the city, the outdoor amphitheater are very important. There is one of his ideas though that is very problematic, the Sharrows.

Bicyclists in this city currently don't respect the rules of the road. They overtake car lanes even when bicycle lanes are available. Many bicyclists I've talked to about the subject do it knowingly and realize that they are required by law to follow the rules of the road but ignore them when it's inconvenient.

Sharrows will only escalate the issue. The only way I'd ever support an idea as absurd as that is if we as a city were to require bicyclists to be licensed if they plan on riding on any street above a 25mph speed limit. This would give motorists a way of reporting those disrespectful and unlawful cyclists when they do go beyond the rules of the road. If the cyclists truly care about road maintanance, bike lanes, etc. they should be happy to pay a yearly fee to help keep them up.
