Scott Crawford, Nu-Tech Systems president, announced that Nu-Tech’s Valley Business Center, earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR certification, which signifies that the building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA. The Valley Business Center was the only recipient in the Warehouse (Unrefrigerated) category in Colorado Springs.

Nathan Agrimson, Farmers Insurance agent in Colorado Springs, has completed the Insurance Agent Career Accelerator Course at the University of Farmers training facility in Agoura Hills, Calif. The curriculum is built for top performing Farmers agents and it gives each agent a solid understanding of the various issues he or she faces in their agency every day.

Dana J. Collier Smith, the assistant executive director of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, is the new 2011-2012 president of the National Association of Bar Executives. Collier Smith has worked for the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations since 1976 and has served as assistant executive director since 2000. Prior to becoming NABE president, she served as vice president, then president-elect.

Cordillera Communications has named Mika Crist local sales manager of KOAA-TV in Colorado Springs. Crist joins KOAA 5 from Comcast Spotlight in Colorado Springs where she was a senior account executive. Crist will oversee local sales operations for KOAA/NBC and News 5 Now. Her team partners directly with clients to drive marketing results for various industries and numerous local companies.

Cukjati Design and Advertising has named Troy Stiles as its new director of business development. In addition to seeking out and cultivating potential business relationships and opportunities, Stiles will be responsible for the management of Cukjati’s day-to-day social media activities and strategy.

Kevin Kaveney, Northwestern Mutual’s managing director, was awarded the Master Achievement Award at Northwestern Mutual’s national conference in Milwaukee, Wis. in July. Kaveney was one of 10 financial advisors to receive the award, recognizing him for his dedication, commitment and impact he has made with individuals, families and businesses in Colorado Springs.

First Affirmative Financial Network has named Debbie S. Gaffney its new controller. She will be responsible for all financial and accounting aspects of the organization. Gaffney was chief financial officer for The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County where she designed and managed the foundation’s financial and accounting functions. During her tenure, the foundation’s assets under management tripled.

Lauren L. Betzler was named vice president of contracts and legal for Aleut Management Services and its subsidiary companies. Betzler will serve as the company’s primary representative for contractual and legal matters with customer, industry and professional organizations. She also is responsible for the protection of the organization’s legal interest both internally and externally, ensuring that practices, policies, and activities meet all legal requirements in the jurisdictions in which the organization operates.

The Colorado Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau has named Alicia McConnell CVB board chair. McConnell is the director of athlete services and programs for the U.S. Olympic Committee. McConnell’s term on the CVB board is effective immediately. At the USOC, she cultivates partnerships with community organizations throughout the U.S., which she brings to the CVB.
