Is Alabama’s immigration law creating a crisis?

Alabama’s strict anti-illegal immigration laws took effect this week, and more than 2,000 Hispanic students stayed home from school.

Alabama’s first Republican super-majority since Reconstruction passed the controversial law, and critics say it is creating a humanitarian crisis in the state, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

School officials say that immigration status will only be gathered for statistical reasons and won’t identify children by name.
