Downtown zoo shop will sell artwork by animals

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo animals are finding their inner-Picasso just in time for holiday shopping.

The zoo is coming off the mountain with a unique holiday shop in downtown Colorado Springs for three days in December. The shop will feature original hand, and trunk, painted pieces from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s elephants and orangutans and paw prints and other art created by African penguins, Amur tigers and ponies and more.

The Zoo to You Gallery, at 214 ½ N. Tejon St., also features other wild gifts like Cheyenne Mountain Zoo animal adoption packages, animal encounter gift certificates, ornaments and membership gift certificates.

It’s a gift that gives twice, said Katie Borremans, spokeswoman for the zoo. A portion of the proceeds goes to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s Quarters for Conservation program, which supports six conservation programs – save the orangutan, vultures, amphibians in Panama, leopards, penguins or snow leopards – and raised $110,367.75 this year.

Zoo to You Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 3, noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 4, and 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7. Prices start at $10. Select merchandise available online at cmzoo.org/gifts.
